CSR Bluetooth Workaround

Postby Adam » Mon Jun 14, 2010 4:19 pm

Several users are reporting issues with CSR Bluetooth chips. Unfortunately miniPLAN does not currently support these devices. Having recently had the opportunity to examine a customer’s netbook you may find the following work around will enable your device to work with miniPLAN.

Please be aware this process involves changing the driver of the Bluetooth chip. Although success is not guaranteed using this method, it did allow our customer to continue using the software.

Also note: The customer required a new bluetooth USB dongle (other than the unit which originally installed the CSR driver).

  1. Ensure all programs are closed before starting this process.
  2. Open the start menu.
  3. Right click “Computer” (My Computer in Windows XP).
  4. Select “Manage”.
  5. In the left-hand tree view select “Device Manager”.
A tree-view for your hardware should be shown in the right-hand panel..
  6. Expand the “Bluetooth Radio’s” branch in the right-hand tree view.
  7. Right click “CSR USB Bluetooth Device” and select “Update Driver…” from the popup menu.
If a CSR device is not listed it is not recommended you continue with this process.
  8. In the “Welcome to Hardware Update Wizard” window select “No, not this time”.
  9. Click “Next”.
  10. Select “Select from a list or specific location (Advanced)”.
  11. Click “Next”.
  12. Select “Don’t search, I will choose the driver I want to install”.
  13. Click “Next”.
  14. Select “Generic Bluetooth Radio”.
  15. Click “Next”.
  16. Click “Finish” when the process completes.
